Approved Mechanical Engineering laboratory write-up.
The Engineering Graphics and Drawing lab focuses on developing visualization skills and understanding the fundamental principles of engineering drawings. It includes the study of drawing instruments, dimensioning, scales, orthographic and isometric projections, and BIS specifications. Students learn projections of points, lines, planes, and solids, along with sectioning and development of surfaces. The course also introduces basic computer-aided drafting using AutoCAD, enabling students to create simple engineering drawings digitally.
Mechanical Workshop provides practical exposure to various manufacturing processes and tools used in engineering. In the machine shop, students study lathe, milling, and shaping machines along with measuring instruments such as vernier callipers and micrometres. The fitting and sheet metal shop involves operations like filing, drilling, tapping, and preparation of sheet metal joints. Carpentry and pattern-making include preparing wooden joints and patterns, while the welding shop focuses on arc welding techniques and joint preparation. Foundry and forging sections help students understand mould making and basic forging operations.
The Strength of Materials Lab aims to determine the mechanical properties of materials through experiments such as hardness tests (Brinell, Rockwell, and Vickers), tensile, compression, bending, torsion, and fatigue tests. It also includes impact testing and determination of spring stiffness. These experiments help in understanding how materials behave under different types of loads.
The Fluid Mechanics and Machines Lab deals with the study of fluid flow and hydraulic machines. Experiments include verification of Bernoulli's theorem; measurement of flow using devices like venturimeters and orifice meters; determination of friction losses in pipes; and performance analysis of turbines and pumps. This lab provides practical knowledge of fluid behavior and energy transfer.
